The standard tolerance level for plasma cutting ranges between 0.1 to 0.2mm. This tolerance level depends majorly on the size of the part and general requirements. However, at UTM, we adjust our tolerance levels to match our customer’s requirements. |

What is Plasma Cutting?
Plasma cutting uses a superheated plasma jet to quickly cut conductive materials up to 6" thick, outperforming CNC laser cutters in speed and cost for large sheet metal parts. However, it struggles with holes and intricate details, which laser cutters handle better. Plasma cutting reduces production times and costs while maintaining accuracy, making it ideal for industries processing large metal parts, but may not suit fine details or small holes.
How Plasma Cutters Work
In plasma cutting, energy and heat transform gas into plasma, which is accelerated out of the torch towards the conductive workpiece. The plasma completes an electrical arc with the workpiece, similar to Electrical Discharge Machines (EDMs). Plasma cutting machines use electricity to generate intense heat, melting and cutting the material along the path while blowing away molten metal. This efficient process works on various conductive materials and is essential for metal fabrication, automotive manufacturing, and construction industries.
